Headache after workouts? 12 tips to prevent it!
Do you ever have a headache after workouts? Many sports people suffer from and then mostly women and runners. Sometimes the pain is so bad that one is considering completely stopping sports. How does headache occur after sports and what can you do?
Headache after workouts
After exercise, you may suffer from headache, also called a headache. It's a tingling headache (on different sides of the head) that can last for 24 hours. In the worst case you get sick of nausea and vomiting. Rule: The heavier the effort, the greater the chance of headache. Some possible causes of headache:- oxygen deficiency When you exercise, you breathe faster. Less oxygen is released into the brain, resulting in an oxygen deficiency (Bohr effect).
- Too intensive portraits.
- Incorrect breathing (for example, during exercise in your body).
- Incorrect posture (for example, a convulsion of the neck muscles).
- Insufficiently eaten (low blood sugar) or drunk
- The vertebrae are incorrect (caused by pelvic jaws).
- High-level sports (less oxygen available in the mountains).
- Overheating (hot weather / high temperatures).
What to do against headaches after sports?
1. Drink a lot!Drink before, during and after your work-out water. Sports drink can also help. Tip: Make your own isotonic sports drink. That is done! Requirements: 500 ml water, 1 tl salt, 1 t lemon juice and 3 el Agave syrup (natural sugars).
2. Eat carbohydrate rich foods
Low-glycemic carbohydrates (glycemic index) are a must for athletes. It ensures that your energy level rises quickly and remains stable. Eat before eating, for example, whole-wheat pasta (for long-term energy) and immediately banana.
3. Outside sports
If you're out of sport, your brain gets more oxygen than when you're in sports (day headache!).
4. Eat salt
Eat some salty sticks after exercising or drink a cup of bouillon soup. Sweating causes you to lose a lot of salt and so you can add salt to your body. It's also smart to add a little salt in your bidon (before during your workout).
5. Put sunglasses in bright sunshine
Sunlight can cause headache.
6. Do not sport when it is too hot
Avoid overheating and sports or at a slow pace when it is warmer than 25 degrees Celsius.
7. Take a magnesium tablet before and after exercising
You lose a lot of minerals if you are sweating, which can cause a magnesium shortage. This often causes headaches.
8. Go to a manual therapist or chiropractor
If headache is caused by nerve vertebrae that are wrong, you may benefit from therapy.
9. Adjust your bike by an expert
If you get a headache after cycling, you can send the height of your saddle and adjust the saddle by an expert. This will prevent a wrong posture (possible cause of headache).
10. Variety of sports
Do you keep headache after running? It may be better to try another sport (with less shock). For example, swimming or cycling.
11. Provide proper breathing
Intensive sports? Breathe out when you put strength. So you get enough oxygen inside.
12. Do not ignore your headache while exercising
If you have a headache, take it easy. Does not the pain go? Do a cooling down and call it a day.
